The sine qua non of "A Man for All Seasons" (the 1966 film version) is when Thomas More responds to his daughter Margaret, upon her begging him to stop "being a hero," to sign the oath, gain his freedom and come out of the Tower of London:

“If we lived in a State where virtue was profitable, common sense would make us good, and greed would make us saintly. And we'd live like animals or angels in the happy land that needs no heroes. But since in fact we see that avarice, anger, envy, pride, sloth, lust and stupidity commonly profit far beyond humility, chastity, fortitude, justice and thought, and have to choose, to be human at all... why then perhaps we must stand fast a little -- even at the risk of being heroes.”

Is there a Canadian chapter of the Hippocratic Society? My son is just starting his medical career and I know for certain will be confronted with this dilemma.

I too would like to know for a young Canadian medical student.

I’m going to see if I can find a contact for him. When I Google Hippocratic Society I get an error message…….probably our government blocking it or something 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve just sent him an email😊 I’ll keep you posted!

California had the most draconian lockdown policies. A friend walking on an empty beach with her daughter was welcomed with sheriff's bullhorn that they would be arrested. Vax passports were real. A friend and I rushed to a Van Gogh exhibit knowing that a vax passport was soon coming. It was surreal to later drive by and watch people standing in line to see the artwork of a man who didn't follow the rules. But CA also produced some of the bravest doctors. Dr. Kheriaty, Dr. Ladapo - now in Florida, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, and Dr. Fareed stood up early to fight against the machinery. Dr. Jay's work showed Covid was already in the area in 2019, but his work was subordinated to the social justice worker of a social worker. Social work has become a very dangerous profession wrecking havoc. I say this with sadness as a parent was in social work and, at one, time it was a force for good.

"Mine is the strength of 10 because my heart is pure." has gotten me though many ethical quagmires. One time I said to a boss, "You shouldn't have hired a Boy Scout." I also used to say this, "I will kiss ass but I won't French kiss ass." Sell outs gave me a wide berth and I also didn't gossip. Gossip I would listen to but not repeat. And I never took anything that wasn't mine, including change on the ground. But not playing the skeeve game can be a hindrance. Who wants to win that way?
